This 2 days Uganda Chimpanzee Trekking safari leads visitors to the lush primate capital of the World-Kibale Forest National Park in western Uganda to trek the Chimpanzees that live in the moist and verdant forest.
Kibale Forest National Park was gazetted in 1993 and offers shelter to over 70 species of mammals including 13 primate species, over 375 species of birds, more than 350 species of trees, butterfly species, Amphibians and reptiles among others.

Day 1: Transfer from Kampala to Kibale Forest National Park
Your day starts with an early morning breakfast and set off time from the City of 6:30am so as to leave Town before the morning traffic jam. Your 5 hours’ journey to Kibale Forest National Park involves driving through a number of Towns including Mityana, Mubende, Kyenjojo and Fort Portal Towns.
There will be a stopover at the sacred Nakayima Tree in Mubende believed to have existed for over 600 years and frequented by locals for healing and good fortune. While on your visit, you will find locals bringing cash and foot items to appease the ancestors. Proceed with your journey while enjoying the scenic views of the lush tea plantations and rock boulders and arrive the Park for lunch at the Safari Lodge.
Freshen up and relax for a while then continue for a tour of the Amabere Caves, another legendary cultural site surrounded by mysteries especially its formation. While here, you will discover its scientific formation as well as cultural formation that overshadow the former in addition to your mind being blown by the breathtaking waterfalls inside the Cave.
The tour ends in the evening (5:00pm to be precise) and return to the Lodge for relaxation, preparation for the next day’s adventure, dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking and return to Kampala
Breakfast will be served early enough from the Lodge to allow you prepare adequately for the main activity of the safari. Converge at Kanyanchu Visitor Center at 7:00am for a briefing on the guidelines of tracking the Chimpanzees and start the trek at 8:00am.
After 1-3 hours of trekking, you will be ushered to a chimpanzee community by the hoot calls of the members. Upon spotting them, spend one hour studying their breathtaking behavior and take photos as they feed, jump through tree branches, play and rest. Its undeniable that this trek is mainly about the chimpanzees but other primates especially the black and white colobus monkeys, red tailed monkeys, L’Hoests monkeys and grey-cheeked mangabeys as well as several bird species, butterflies and if lucky snakes are likely to be spotted during the trek.
Return to the Lodge for lunch after which you will check-out and start your journey to Kampala, and arrive in the evening.

Chimpanzee trekking guidelines
- Avoid using flash cameras when taking photos of the Chimpanzees.
- Do not enter the forest if you are sick (especially with cold or cough) because chimpanzees are closely related to humans and can catch the diseases.
- Eating, smoking and drinking while in the presence of the Chimpanzees is not allowed.
- Littering the Park is not appropriate as rubbish acts as breeding places for the germs.
- Maintain a distance of 8 meters away from the Chimpanzees.
- Avoid making noise while trekking or when in the presence of the Chimpanzees as it may scare them.
